Support for current Australian Apprentices

It is important for all Australians to recognise the value of a career in Vocational Education and Training.  The Australian Government recognises that apprentices are one of Australia's most valuable resources.  In order to help apprentices stay the distance, there is now a wide range of financial and other incentives available.


Apprenticeship Training (Fee) Vouchers

From 1 July 2007 Apprenticeship Training (Fee) Vouchers valued at up to $500 may be available to eligible first and second year apprentices undertaking an Australian Apprenticeship in a skills shortage area.


Apprentice Wage Top-Up

From 1 July 2007, Australian Apprentices who are aged under 30 when they commence their Australian Apprenticeship and are in their first or second year of training at the Certificate III or IV level in a trade experiencing a skills shortage may be eligible for tax-free payments of $2000 paid in four $500 instalments.

The Incentives for Higher Technical Skills Initiative (IHTS) was established in response to industry needs for a more highly skills workforce. This initiative aims to increase the opportunities for Australians to gain new skills, help develop a more entrepreneurial workforce and help individuals to continually upgrade their skills over their working lives.


Support for Mid-Career Apprentices

From 1 July 2007, financial support for mid-career Australians (aged 30 years or more) may be available to upgrade their skills through an Australian Apprenticeship in a trade experiencing a skill shortage.
